Longing for Jesus
Longing for Jesus
“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? “
Psalm 42:1-2 (NLT)
I crave Jesus. I realize that is such a powerful declarative statement, but I do. I know that I am nothing without Him, and the more that I grow in Him the more I desire Him and all that He stands for in my life.
I am not ashamed to say that I have the most absolute deepest of yearning for Him, and I know that only genuinely knowing Him fully will appease my soul.
I have this insatiable need to experience this intensely, intimate sense of communion with God that I know that if I can’t have it, I will surely die. It is so intense that it is surely engrained within every fiber of my being.
Do you know what I mean?
There is this hankering in your soul that only He can fill.
You’ve tried other things, but nothing or no one will truly give you what you pine for, which is Jesus.
That is the longing I am talking about.
It is also the longing that is also discussed in this scripture.
I have always loved this scripture because I have always found it to quite romantic in its prose; it is speaking of this deeply, profound desire in the highest order, which, I must add, the writer in me finds simply intoxicating.
This scripture highlights the time when King David was not able to worship publicly as he would have liked and as he was a man who had such a profound deep abiding love for God he was heartsick.
Simply, nothing brought him more pleasure than worshipping God and to not be able to do that the way that he would have liked initiated this pining in his soul.
It is like the deer that needs water to be refreshed, so King David (and so do I) need God to refresh our soul.
Nothing else will satisfy because nothing else can compare to Elohim.
And as Christians, we have to get to the point where we recognize God as our ONLY source, He is our well and only He can supply all that we yearn for.
The more we chase after other things or people, the more that we will be continuing to try to get something from someone that only God was meant to supply.
God is our water and only knowing Him intimately will satisfy the longing in our soul.
I hope that today you will examine your relationship with Christ and make the decision to get real with God by desiring to know Him fully and intimately because only He can give you what your soul longs for….which is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Merciful Father, thank You for showing me how important it is to have a full relationship with You. In Jesus’ Name, I Pray, Amen.
