Line Dancing Comes to Asbury
Line Dancing Comes to Asbury
By Nina Fortson
Line dancing, a popular dance form that has been around for ages, is now at Asbury every Saturday night. Taught by passionate line dance enthusiast, Curtis Donaldson (C.J.), line dancing is a great way for people to have fun, fellowship with one another and just sweat.
Line dancing is a choreographed dance that has a series of repeated steps and all of the dancers are in a line or in a row executing the steps in unison.
Although some dances may be quite involved, Donaldson believes in making sure that his choreography is as simple as possible because he really wants to emphasize that anyone can do line dancing.
“All I want is for people to just have fun with us,” he said.

Line dancing is an activity that he shared with his father back in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Together they taught line dancing classes every weekend, including after their church services.
When he moved back to Frederick in late 2012, his love for line dancing did not end.
From his time of teaching at his old church in New Jersey, he knew that line dancing was a great way for the community to just get together and have fun and fellowship with one another, so he knew that it would be a great outreach opportunity for Asbury.
Thus after attending here for a few months, he decided to ask Pastor Brooks if he could start a class here. Approval was given and classes started in earnest.
Besides teaching the Cha Cha Slide and Cupid Shuffle, which are two contemporary line dance staples, Donaldson hopes to create a special dance just for Asbury.
At Asbury, line dancing represents more than just a fun activity it is a way for all people, young and old, member and non-member, to fellowship with one another.
And much to his enjoyment, people are. Since June, the class continues to grow with more and more people coming to join in the choreographed fun.
Saturdays at Asbury are now filled with lots of laughter, shared commanderie and lots and lots of sweat.
So, bring your water bottle, grab a friend and join us at Asbury Saturdays from 6:00p.m. -8:00p.m. for lots of fun, fellowship and exercise!
