Worship is a central part of the church’s life. Therefore, it is important that we continually adapt to the needs and realities of our congregation. To that end, there are two structures that we use at Asbury UMC: Worship Committee and a Worship Planning Team.
Our worship committee ensures that worship leaders have the tools they need to help worshipers in our congregation offer their gifts in worship as fully and expressively as they can. Worship committees may focus their work in three areas: resource provision, volunteer training and support, and policy development.
Our worship planning team focuses on short and long -range planning for worship and on developing the congregation as an active, vital worshiping community. A worship planning team may focus on developing the vision and themes for worship, discovering and deploying the gifts of the congregation in worship, and creating worship experiences that both reflect and inform the congregation’s understanding of and witness to our God.

At Asbury, the ushers serve as the hosts for worship. As hosts, we do a variety of duties and tasks that contribute to the structure of a beautiful service. Along with the greeters, we most often are the first smiling faces our visitors greet when entering the sanctuary. Ushers help guests and members alike by greeting, helping people find seats, answering questions, attending to any needs, and connecting people with staff and the pastor. Ushers duties also include passing out programs and collecting the offertory. We welcome anyone who wishes to be a part of this ministry.
“Very truly, I tell you, whoever receives one whom I send receives me; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.”
