God is our Help
God is our Help
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1 (NIV)
and
“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”
Nahum 1:7 (NIV)
God is so many things to each one of His children and one of those things that He is our Strong-Tower. How fantastic it is to know that He is there as a safe haven to shield and protect us, His children! I don’t know about you, but I know that I have always been comforted in knowing that He is there to wrap His loving arms around me during my many times of trouble. It has always made me glad knowing that He loves me so much that He simply wants to console and care for me.
As we all know, life is just filled full with troubles. Some days it seems as if trouble is the only thing that knocks on our doors. We wake up in the morning and the car won’t start or we discover the water heater has burst and we have a flood in our basements or it could be something serious, like a relationship, work-place issue, or the news of a difficult diagnosis.
Life is just filled full of troubles.
But the Good News is that even in times of adversity and struggles, God is there. You may not feel it or even see it, but He is and as children of God, we should always take comfort in that.
As with many verses in the Bible, various situations in my life cause certain promises to just speak through to me during whatever I am facing and the above verses served as a lifeline for me this year.
This year, my family and I have been going through a very difficult situation. I will spare you the details, but suffice to say, it is heart-breaking trouble unlike any I could have ever imagined.
As is common in my family’s life, we drew on the promises of God for strength and considering the trial, we needed His strength in spades.
The trouble, of course, did not end immediately and in some respects it still remains, but the peace that passes all understanding flows through our veins and His promise of being our refuge in times of trouble became real in all of our lives.
The beautiful thing about God being our strong-tower was that I could actually feel Him erecting this fortified wall around my family; and let me tell you, this is no sweeter peace than that.
So, I say to you today to not allow the strain of troubles bog up down. Reach out to your Strong Tower and find sweet, sweet rest.
My Precious Strong Tower, I praise You for being that to me and to my family. I am so glad that I can run to You and find comfort and peace in Your arms during my troubles. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
